Remote Access
Conductore can expose your terminal sessions over a local network or the public internet, letting you control them from any device with a browser or SSH client.
Local server
The local server runs an Express HTTP server on 127.0.0.1 (localhost only by default).
Start it from Settings → Remote Access → Start Server, or via the title bar button.
Default port: 3456 (configurable)
Authentication
Remote access requires a password. Set a password in Settings → Remote Access → Password. The password is encrypted and stored in the OS keychain.
Connections are authenticated via Authorization: Bearer <password> header.
Never start the local server without setting a password. Empty password = no access.
Public tunnel
The public tunnel uses localtunnel to expose your local server on a public HTTPS URL:
https://abc123.loca.lt
Start the tunnel from Settings → Remote Access → Start Tunnel, or via the title bar button.
The tunnel URL appears in the title bar when active. Click the 🌐 button to copy the URL to clipboard.
Availability
Localtunnel is a third-party service. Tunnel availability depends on their infrastructure. If the tunnel fails to start, Conductore shows "Public tunnel not available" and continues running the local server only.
For production use, consider using your own tunneling solution (ngrok, Cloudflare Tunnel, etc.) and forwarding to the local server port.
What you can do remotely
The remote API exposes:
- View all terminal panes and their current output
- Send input to any terminal
- Switch layouts
- Get project and session status
This is useful for:
- Monitoring agents running on a workstation from your laptop
- Quick checks from a tablet or phone
- Integrating with external automation tools
Security considerations
- The server binds to
127.0.0.1by default — it's not accessible from the network without the tunnel - All requests require Bearer token authentication
- Tokens are compared using
timingSafeEqualto prevent timing attacks - The tunnel URL is random and rotates on each session
- Close the tunnel when not in use
Use a strong, unique password (20+ characters). The tunnel URL is guessable in theory — your password is the real protection.
